Overview and Position Goals

The mission of the Pittsburgh Connects program and the Project Coordinator is to promote awareness, knowledge, and usage of computers/technology among residents of Garfield and surrounding neighborhoods. The Project Coordinator coordinates all of the initiatives and services of the BGC Pittsburgh CONNECTS program, working collaboratively with diverse but complementary Pittsburgh CONNECTS’ anchor institutions, and community, faith, government and school partners to plan, market and recruit for, and administer program services at the 5321 Penn Avenue lab location and community partner sites. Ensures that all participants are served appropriately and all key program outcomes are achieved in a timely and fast paced manner.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will be one whom can coordinate all of the initiatives and services of the Pittsburgh CONNECTS program. They will work collaboratively with Pittsburgh CONNECTS’ anchor institutions, diverse and vulnerable populations and in a highly coordinated approach. Key skills and past experience in helping to plan, market and recruit for, and fully administer all key program services is essential. Ensure that all participant and program outcomes related to awareness, knowledge, and usages of computers are achieved.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Develop and manage the BGC Pittsburgh CONNECTS Lab and online training content to ensure engaging, fun, and informative lessons and workshops that address education, employment, and health and wellness. Ensure the ongoing quality improvement and development of such content and collect and use customer feedback for improvements, measuring needs and satisfaction.

  • Conduct trainings and implement programs that focus on the core mission of Pittsburgh CONNECTS.
  • Manages the lab space and all off site technology activity, including overseeing the preparation of PCs for recruited workshop attendees, system integrity, and broadband connectivity.
  • Recommends staff to be hired for Pittsburgh CONNECTS and manages the orientation and staff scheduling of all new staff and site based volunteers.
  • Manages the development, utilization, and continuous improvement of: monthly training schedules, the full utilization of all broadband equipment and resources, lessons and workshops.
  • Keeps an updated and online staff “how-to” manual on standard operating procedures and lesson plans, maintain sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  • Lead and or assist in the recruitment of volunteers and subject matter expert presenters.
  • Recruits and markets extensively within the community, and is able to do direct outreach to collaborating partners.
  • Creates signage, lists, and related end-user tools that direct staff, volunteers, and PC users to Internet sites that contain quality online content.
  • Creates and maintains a welcoming environment at the Lab that draws participants in.
  • Monitors enrollment and participation rates and works with staff to take appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develops all program and funder reports and assists in grants and proposals seeking funding.
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned for which the employee is qualified and physically able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

  • B.A. in a related discipline or considerable documented and proven experience
  • At least 2 years of related program development and management experience
  • Criminal, Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Clearances
  • A valid PA drivers license and functioning vehicle
  • Past experience managing staff and engaging community
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to develop high quality marketing materials
  • Motivated and driven by a desire to have residents in Garfield and surrounding neighborhoods better their lives through the enhance utilization of technology

Working Conditions

The incumbent generally performs the duties of the position at a computer lab location or in the surrounding community. He/she will have extensive direct contact with clients and will spend substantial time out of the office. Extensive communication with other agencies and anchor institution partners is necessary. The position involves using a computer, modem, adding machine, copy machine, telephone and facsimile and periodic automobile transportation will be necessary. The position involves working with highly confidential information.

Events and Volunteer Coordinator -- MainStreets

Job Title: MainStreets Program – Events & Volunteer Coordinator

Assist MainStreets Manager with coordinating events and undertaking tasks to promote the Penn Avenue Arts Initiative, and to engage members of the community in activities and projects as assigned by the Mainstreets Manager.

Responsibilities:

The primary functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Organize the production and distribution of promotional materials related to PAAI-sponsored events, programs and activities.

* Serve as a referral source and contact point for persons interested in obtaining information or participating in PAAI-sponsored programs and projects, including “Unblurred” and “Clean, Green, and Screen”.

* Recruit interest from property owners in the Penn Avenue corridor, and from artists and arts-related enterprises, in utilizing the Artist’s Loan and Grant Fund, and assist the Mainstreets Manager in organizing workshops and other informational forums.

* Organize and support the efforts of volunteers to help make projects such as “Clean, Green, & Screen”, Penn Avenue clean-ups, and GA/GI Festival successful ventures.

* Use The Bulletin newspaper and other media, including the Internet, to promote events and projects related to PAAI and the MainStreets program and educate the public on its on-going efforts and accomplishments.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree preferred, and/or extensive experience in relevant occupations, and good working knowledge of community groups and individual entrepreneurs in Penn Avenue corridor.

2. Strong interpersonal and computer-related skills, with grasp of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.

3. PA driver’s license and clear criminal record or history.

MainStreets Job Opening

Job Title: MainStreets Program Manager

Coordinate, plan, and manage various programs, events, and projects to fulfill principal objectives outlined in workplan submitted by BGC and Friendship Development Associates (FDA) to Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) for the 2011 MainStreets contract.

Responsibilities:

The primary functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Engage in activities that assist prospective business owners, non-profit organizations, artists, and other entrepreneurs in locating and developing space for their operations within the 4800 to 5500 blocks of Penn Avenue.

* Secure potential sites and assemble resources and volunteers as needed to continue the “Clean, Green, & Screen Project” to beautify vacant lots and parking areas in 4800 to 5500 blocks of Penn Avenue with landscaping, fencing or screens, and/or public art.

* Oversee operation of the Penn Avenue Arts Initiative for the BGC and FDA, and work with committees of volunteers to enhance its impact on Penn Avenue. Assist them in sponsorship of the Unblurred events on the first Fridays of each month, and in the administration of the Artist’s Loan and Grant Fund for eligible projects.

* Participate in meetings related to the reconstruction of the public infrastructure in the Penn Avenue commercial district, and the possible creation of a business improvement district in the Corridor, and accept any tasks that are assigned, relative to communicating with, or receiving input from, business and property owners relative to either of these developments.

* Use The Bulletin newspaper, organizational websites, and other media forms, to promote events, activities, and projects related to implementing the workplan for the MainStreets program and educating the public on its on-going efforts and accomplishments.

* Prepare reports on program accomplishments, and invoices for reimbursement of funds expended, to be submitted to the URA on a quarterly basis at a minimum. Assist the BGC and FDA in writing and submitting the proposal for 2012 Mainstreets program funding. Attend any conferences and seminars as required either by the BGC and FDA, or by the URA, in order to remain in compliance with the Mainstreets contract.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree preferred, and/or extensive experience in relevant occupations or fields of study.

2. Good working knowledge of recent developments in the Penn Avenue corridor.

3. Strong interpersonal skills and writing ability, with experience in using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.

Afterschool Site Coordinator

Job Summary:

This position will implement age and grade appropriate Language Arts and Math lessons for kindergarten through second grade students. In addition, the coordinator will work in partnership with the Family Resources BJWL K-5 in all activities related to the afterschool program.

The Coordinator will ensure successful implementation of all objectives and ensure that outcomes are achieved and reported back in a timely manner. This will require staff, among other duties, to collect and be accountable for daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly student data.

Community LEARNS Program Overview

Community LEARNS is an afterschool program with a strong academic focus serving principally lower income and African American students. The main program is offered at Pittsburgh Peabody and includes numerous program components that need to be coordinated to ensure students have the greatest opportunity to have school success including graduation and Promise readiness.

Job Summary

The incumbent coordinates all of the initiatives and services of the Community LEARNS program, working collaboratively with Community LEARNS community, faith, and school partners to plan and administer program services and ensure that all program outcomes are achieved in a timely manner.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Oversees the implementation of the all Wireless Neighborhoods afterschool grants.
  • Ensures all process and program outcomes are being accomplished
  • Manages all components of the Community LEARNS programs including academics/tutoring, college preparation, recreation, and employment.
  • Develops all program components and initiatives.
  • Assists Executive leadership team with the development of all program proposals.
  • Creates strong working relationship with school principals and other relevant staff, parents and community partners.
  • Recommends staff to be hired for Community LEARNS.
  • Manage the orientation of all new staff and the ongoing development of all program staff
  • Supervises all program staff.
  • Monitors student enrollment and participation rates and works with staff to take appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitors and adjusts overall staffing of program sites/services.
  • Develops and monitors mechanisms for tracking all program outcome data.
  • Develops all program and funder reports.
  • Creates weekly participant and staff schedules with input from coordinators and monitors the daily staff schedules that are created.
  • Monitors program documentation/data for all sites, including but not limited to individual participant files, registration and release forms, participant Education and Career Success Plans (ECS’s), service documentation, daily participant sign-in and sign-out sheets, monthly attendance spreadsheets, weekly reports, monthly reports, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Oversees the development of all student Academic Service Plans (ASPs) and ensures that all participants are participating in appropriate program components.
  • Regularly collects data from school on attendance, grades, standardized test scores, disciplinary actions, etc. to connect youth to the appropriate afterschool academic services. Develops and maintains a long-term tracking system for the data.
  • Works with school counselors, Community LEARNS staff and other community partners to ensure that students are receiving the most appropriate set of afterschool academic and support services.
  • Documents the program model so that it can be shared with other organizations seeking to serve high school and middle school students.
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned for which the employee is qualified and physically able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

Job Summary:
Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center serves is a regional resource enterprise for job seekers that primarily reside or work in the Garfield, East Liberty and Lawrenceville communities. The Workforce Developer will work with paid and volunteer staff to deliver services that assist the unemployed or underemployed find suitable employment. There will be coordination with regional employers for recruiting programs and events that provide opportunities to connect those seeking employment with open positions and/or training. There are multiple agencies and governmental entities with which the ENEC partners and the incumbent will serve on boards/committees that will require continued involvement and innovative strategies. The Workforce Developer will manage various youth (14-21 year of age) career readiness and employment programs in association with the Bloomfield Garfield Corporation.


Duties/Responsibilities:


1. Provides monthly and quarterly reports on client visits and placements (EF);

3. Contacting, interacting, and building relationships with employers, social service agencies, local schools, City of Pittsburgh/CareerLink departments and other neighborhood employment centers on employment initiatives such as East End Works regional Collaborative, job fairs, UPMC interview events and individual employer hiring sessions at ENEC (EF);

Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center is hosting Job Fair Preparation Month throughout October, to get ready for a job fair to be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Job Fair Preparation Month will include free workshops and job preparation coaching sessions, including computer basics, making the Internet work for your career, and building resumes to make you money. Other workshops include “Land the Job: How to Prepare for the Greater East Liberty Job Fair” and “Don’t Fret! Managing Background Issues and Debt.”

Also consider attending job preparation services like one-on-one job counseling and workplace dress and behavior tips every day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or Wednesday evenings from 5-7:30 p.m.

The Nursery Coordinator will implement procedures and manage the volunteer staff of the Sunday nursery program for infants-preschool children, as directed by the Minister of Discipleship. Position is part-time and available immediately.

Job Summary:

The Youth Employment program coordinator will work in a team environment to stimulate change in the local workforce development system to better service young people ages 17-21. This staff person will case manage the youths in collaboration with the schools, social service providers, employers and others to create a coordinated and effective youth workforce system. This position reports to the Youth Development Director.

Duties/Responsibilities:

- Ongoing reporting on program participant’s progress to the Youth Development Director.

- Participate in the implementation of BGC’s proposal and contract in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the City of Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh Partnership and Youth Works.

- Assist in the management and recruitment process of youth employment program participants.

- With assistance from the program manager, develop initiatives and other components that support and nurture the overall BGC workforce development program.

- Identify partners and develop relationships to implement paid/unpaid training activities.

- Networking with existing and new institutional partners for supportive service partnerships and worksites for participants

- Manage the progress of all participants. Work with worksite supervisors to design and implement an individual plan of action based upon each participant’s needs.

- Help in the building of announcements, bulletins, and/or articles that are submitted to the BGC’s monthly Bulletin and other publications (newspapers, magazines, newsletters)

- Assist in creating flyers and other correspondence sent to participants, their families and partners involved with the project.

- Coordinate the collection of timesheets twice monthly for all program participants – collecting timesheets from participants or worksite supervisors, calculating worksite/training hours, submission of hours to the bookkeeper.

- Manage assigned caseload of youth participants in the BGC/WIA Employment Programs.

- Responsible for making sure that all participants’ individual folders contain all pertinent documentation/information

- Responsible for the timely submission of all pertinent documentation to the City and YouthWorks

- Supervise and coordinate the training sessions

- Maintain and coordinate the quarterly calendar of training and/or other activities.

Required Qualifications:

-At least a Bachelor’s Degree in education, social work, or related field.

-Experience in workforce development or educational environment.

-Experience working with community groups and urban youth.

-Desire to engage parents in program.

-Case management experience a plus.

-Flexible and computer literate.

-Ability to engage urban youth.

-Access to a car

-Strong communication skills.
