Protect your identity! Free Document-Shredding Event

State representative Dom Costa will host a free document-shredding event this month to counteract the issue of identity theft.

Those interested should bring documents they no longer need that contain personal information such as:

• Social Security numbers
• Credit card and bank account numbers including ATM receipts
• Cancelled checks
• Income tax information
• Insurance information including medical
• Retirement and pension fund information

Other tips to protect your identity include: using unique passwords and never writing them down; being wary of giving out Social Security numbers, bank and credit card numbers, passwords or user IDs; and using caution when making purchases on the Internet.
