This year’s event will honor long time board members, Elizabeth Hobbs and Elin Roddey. Flu (Seasonal and H1N1) Injections for Children

Seasonal and swine flu (H1N1) injections will be available for children 6 months to 6 years of age on Thursday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Family Care Connection, located at 5235 Butler Street in Lawrenceville. The injections are free, but you must call ahead so that enough vaccine can be ordered: 412-784-8683.

Home Safety Workshops for Kids

Home Depot Safety Day will take place at Home Depot in East Liberty on October 3rd, when the Fire and Police Department will conduct workshops for children about safety. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Sprout Fund is looking for a few good ideas. Add your voice to the mix at Making Sparks, an event to discover and discuss new ideas for making Pittsburgh a better place for children to live, learn, and play. If you work with or have children or are involved in technology or the arts - or just care about Pittsburgh's future - then you can't miss Making Sparks!

At this one-day event at the Heinz History Center in the Strip District, you and your fellow Pittsburghers will help define and develop new projects that will have a chance to apply for up to $50,000 in funding. Put in your two cents now, and you'll be better positioned to seek funding for your idea.

Open House at Saint John Neumann School

Saint John Neumann Regional Catholic Elementary School invites students and prospective students and their families to an Open House on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at the school, located at 250 44th Street.

The Open House will offer visitors the opportunity to tour our classrooms, meet with faculty and staff, and learn about the faith-based academics, sports, and extracurricular activities available at Saint John Neumann Regional. Interested families may also register their children for the 2009-2010 school year.

Saint John Neumann Regional Catholic Elementary School is conveniently located in the historic Lawrenceville neighborhood, and is within walking distance of the new Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Bereavement Camp for Kids

In an effort to help western Pennsylvania children who have lost a loved one to understand the grieving process, Good Samaritan Hospice (GSH), a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will host an overnight summer bereavement camp (Camp Good Sam) from Aug. 14–16 at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee near Zelienople, just north of Cranberry.

Camp Good Sam is designed for children ages 6–18. Interested campers must complete a camp application and participate in a brief interview before attending. Thanks to community support, grants, and organizational sponsorships, the minimal cost for Camp Good Sam is only $15 per family, which last year helped 13 kids better understand the grief process, as well as their own feelings.

The curriculum for the camp includes group sessions, one-on-one interaction, crafts, and activities. Campers are encouraged to work through grief at their own pace, while GSH counselors foster an environment of sharing and acceptance.
