Free Voter Education Trainings

The Greater Pittsburgh/Mon Valley Unity '08 Coalition, B-PEP (Black Political Empowerment Project), PA Voice, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, NAACP Pittsburgh Branch, the Greater Pittsburgh Non Profit Partnership, Everybody Votes, and others are joining efforts to increase voter participation in the upcoming elections. There will be a FREE, two-part Voter Education Training on September 8, 2008 and October 8, 2008, for community organizations. Each day provides a choice of two sessions, beginning either at 8 a.m. or 10 a.m. Come to the training and get equipped to register your constituents to vote and, thereby, help to increase our region's civic participation.

The trainings are non-partisan and will be held at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Building at One Smithfield Street, Downtown Pittsburgh, in the lower-level Homestead Grays Conference Room. Each will feature prominent speakers and experts in the area of voter registration and voter rights protection. The September 8 workshop will train participants in voter registration and verification. In this workshop local and national trainers will provide your organization, network, or church group with a tool kit and other valuable information to support your efforts to educate, engage, and enlighten the community on their role and responsibility in the voting process. The October 8 workshop is designed to stimulate and encourage our network to support the Get Out the Vote efforts in the community. Participants will receive pertinent information addressing election protection, voter rights, poll location information, and emergency contact numbers for voter complaints.

Due to space limitations, we are only able to offer this two-fold training to a limited number, so register your organization by August 29, by contacting Pam Williams at pwilliams@ulpgh.org or 412-227-4160.
