Community LEARNS is a partnership of Wireless Neighborhoods, the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation, the Mt. Ararat Community Activity Center, One Vision One Life and the Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center, providing "academics-first" afterschool and summer educational, recreational, support, and employment services to Peabody and Schenley High School 9th to 12th graders. This summer, Community LEARNS is offering several summer options for
Instructors: Instructors will be responsible for leading classes of 10-12 students in math, literacy, SAT prep, and/or credit recovery. Teaching certification is preferable, but not required. Monday – Thursday schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and/or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (This could be a 3 hour/day or 6 hour/day position; it's flexible.) Training on curricula provided. Hourly rate of $15-$25, commensurate with education and experience;
Classroom Assistants/Tutors: CAs and tutors will assist classroom instructors with classroom management, delivery of curricula, and small group tutoring. Monday – Thursday schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and/or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Possible Friday hours to help chaperone field trips. Training on curricula provided. Hourly rate of $8-$14, commensurate with education and experience.
Community LEARNS, led by its partner the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation, is also teaming up with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program (PYSEP) to provide an academic component for 125 of the participants. We are hiring for the following positions to work in this program from July 7 through August 15:
