Stephen Foster Anniversary
On Friday, January 11, there will be a commemoration of the 144th anniversary of the death of Pittsburgh's own Stephen Foster, composer of such classic songs as "My Old Kentucky Home" and "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair." The event will start off at 10 a.m. at the Foster commemorative stained glass window in the Temple of Memories Mausoleum at Allegheny Cemetery, 4715 Penn Avenue in Garfield. (Stephen Foster is interred in Section 21 of the cemetery.) At noon, local jazz guitarist Joe Negri will entertain the public at the Stephen Foster Memorial, which is adjacent to the Cathedral of Learning on Forbes Avenue in Oakland. For more information, contact the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association at 412-682-1624. Doo dah!
